AGV Smart Fire Protection Cover

Lithium battery thermal runaway in AGVs is one of the hardest safety risks to guard against in warehousing and factory environments. Our smart fire protection cover adopts a "smother-and-isolate" strategy — instead of trying to forcibly extinguish the battery fire, it contains the fire within a sealed enclosure, allowing the battery to burn itself out in an oxygen-deprived environment, while blocking the spread of flames to protect surrounding equipment and goods.

How It Works

The "smother-and-isolate" strategy — contain and isolate rather than forcibly extinguish

Why "smother-and-isolate"?

Once lithium battery thermal runaway occurs, combustion temperatures can exceed 800°C, and internal chemical reactions in the battery continue to release oxygen. Traditional extinguishing methods (water, foam, dry powder) struggle to put out such fires effectively and may even cause secondary accidents.

Our strategy: rather than trying to forcibly extinguish the battery fire, we isolate the burning AGV inside a sealed fire protection cover and let the battery burn itself out in an oxygen-deprived environment. At the same time, the spread of fire is blocked, protecting surrounding equipment, goods and personnel.

  • Isolate the fire source: sealed enclosure blocks fire spread
  • Consume oxygen: aerosol fills the space, suppressing combustion
  • Burn itself out: let the battery burn out in a controlled environment
  • Protect the surroundings: no impact on nearby equipment and goods

Automatic Cover Closure

Once a fire is confirmed, the fire protection cover door closes and locks automatically with no manual intervention. It uses a parcel-locker-style spring lock design: when a fire occurs, the electromagnet is de-energized and releases, the spring lock immediately snaps open, the door closes under its own weight, and the heat-expanding sealing strip further blocks smoke and oxygen.

  • Spring lock mechanism: auto-release on power loss, no power needed to maintain
  • Gravity closing: door closes under its own weight, highly reliable
  • Expanding seal: expands when heated, enhancing the seal
  • Front half-opening door: easy AGV entry/exit, fully sealed once closed

Full-Enclosure Aerosol Filling

The S-type hot aerosol extinguishing unit activates automatically on fire. The aerosol rapidly fills the entire enclosure (approx. 3.9 m³), diluting and suppressing the oxygen needed for combustion, allowing the battery to burn out in an oxygen-deprived environment while lowering the internal temperature.

  • S-type aerosol: suited to electrical fires, non-conductive, residue-free
  • Full-enclosure coverage: fills the 3.9 m³ space with no dead corners
  • Oxygen suppression: lowers the oxygen concentration needed for combustion
  • Cooling effect: lowers internal temperature, slows the fire

Dual Redundant Detection

A single sensor may cause false alarms or miss real fires. We use dual monitoring with a smoke sensor + temperature sensor: a fire is confirmed only when both are triggered simultaneously. This avoids frequent door closures caused by false alarms while reliably detecting real fires.

  • Smoke sensor: detects smoke particles produced by combustion
  • Temperature probe: detects abnormal temperature rise (at a preset threshold)
  • Dual confirmation: suppression starts only when both are triggered
  • False-alarm prevention: immune to dust, moisture and other interference
Dual redundant detection

Automatic Power Trip

The cover is equipped with a built-in 16A socket that powers the AGV charging station. In the event of a fire, the trip device automatically cuts off the charger's power, preventing energized equipment from worsening the fire and stopping the fire from spreading through cables.

  • Built-in socket: 16A socket powers the charging station
  • Automatic trip: power cut immediately on fire
  • Isolate energized equipment: prevents electrical fires from escalating
  • Cable protection: stops fire spreading through cables

Audible & Visual Alarm

A high-power audible & visual alarm beacon is installed in a prominent position on top of the cover. When a fire occurs, it flashes and sounds continuously, alerting on-site personnel immediately so they can evacuate or take emergency measures in time.

  • High-power beacon: high-brightness flashing, visible from a distance
  • High-decibel alarm: audible above workshop noise
  • Top-mounted: prominent position, unobstructed
  • Continuous alarm: until manually reset

Backup Power Supply

A built-in lithium battery serves as backup power, keeping critical functions such as detection, alarm and cover closure running for at least 1 hour after main power failure, ensuring the entire fire-suppression process is executed reliably.

  • Built-in lithium battery: independent of the main power supply
  • 1-hour runtime: covers the full detection, alarm and actuation cycle
  • Automatic switchover: seamless transition on main power failure
  • Maintenance reminder: alerts when battery is low

Application Scenarios

Anywhere AGVs charge or park needs fire protection

🏭

Smart Warehousing

In scenarios such as automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) and dense storage, AGV charging areas are often adjacent to goods storage zones. The fire protection cover contains the fire within a small area, protecting high-value goods.

📦

Logistics Centers

AGVs are charged in clusters in sorting and transfer areas, where a fire could spread widely. The fire protection cover provides reliable isolation, reducing fire losses.

🚗

Automotive Plants

AGVs on welding and final assembly lines charge frequently, and line continuity is critical. The fire protection cover quickly isolates fires, minimizing production downtime.

Electronics Manufacturing

Electronics plants have extremely stringent fire-protection requirements. The fire protection cover meets these strict standards, minimizing lithium battery fire risks.

🏥

Pharmaceutical Warehousing

Pharmaceutical storage has strict environmental requirements. The fire protection cover isolates fires without contaminating the surrounding area, meeting GMP requirements.

🛒

E-commerce Warehouses

During peak sales seasons AGVs run at high intensity with frequent charging, raising fire risks. The fire protection cover provides round-the-clock protection.
